We are very pleased to announce the following:
- PJ Legal will be rebranding to become Mercatis Law with effect from Tuesday 7th April 2020; and
- Leading commodities lawyer, Simon Jones, has joined our team in Singapore as a partner from 1 March 2020.
These developments reflect our strong international growth over the past year. We now advise commodities and energy businesses in Singapore, Europe and the UK. Our change of name reflects the firm’s focus: providing specialist commodities and energy law advice across all trading markets, both physical and financial. Our rebranding notice can be found here for Singapore, and here for the UK.

Simon brings 15 years’ experience, including 7 as a partner at Reed Smith, advising commodity traders, banks, mining and energy companies on all aspects of their physical commodities trading businesses. Simon advises on disputes, transactional and advisory matters in relation to the trading, transporting and financing of a wide range of commodities. You can read more about his background and experience here.
Commenting on his move, Simon said:
“Joining Mercatis Law is particularly exciting because of their unique, specialist focus on the commodities sector and their alternative model of law firm which offers clients a combination of specialist experience and highly competitive fee structures.”
Justin Boyd, Singapore office Managing Partner said:
“Simon brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in the commodities sector and knows the market in Singapore and across Asia very well. We are very excited by the opportunities this will create for our firm. His joining is part of our strategy to grow our firm with experienced and specialised lawyers who appreciate the need to provide legal services to the commodities sector in a more efficient manner.”
Paul Johnson, UK Managing Partner said:
“I am delighted Simon has joined us. He is an excellent addition to the team in Singapore and I am looking forward to working with him. I’m also very pleased with our new name and branding. “Mercatis” means “markets” which closely reflects our aim to provide trusted advice to commodities clients in all trading markets. Obviously these are troubling times, although we are busy and available working hard from home to support our clients.”
